The feed additive tools on AnimalFeedAdditives.net are two request forms: a supplier quote request that reaches several independent suppliers, and an expert match that sends a regulatory or formulation question to independent experts. The first form takes the additive, grade or form, quantity per year, destination country and certification needed; the second takes a topic, species, country and a short description.
The site sells no additive, and no listing on it is paid for. The page lists the two tools, routes each request type to the right one with the EU, US, GB and China instruments behind it, sets out the checks to finish before sending a request, and explains how requests travel.
Every statement here is compiled from named primary sources; see the methodology.
What Are the Feed Additive Tools?#
Feed additive tools are the forms a nutritionist, feed mill, premixer or buyer uses to turn a question about a feed additive into a request that a supplier or an expert can answer. They cover any additive from the five feed additive categories of the EU (technological, sensory, nutritional, zootechnical, coccidiostats and histomonostats), or one with US status. Under Article 2(2)(a) of Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003, a feed additive is a substance, micro-organism or preparation, other than feed material and premixtures, intentionally added to feed or water to perform one or more of the functions in Article 5(3). The site runs no dosing or cost calculator, only the two request tools.
Directory of Feed Additive Tools#
The two tool pages below cover every request the site accepts, one for buying an additive and one for a regulatory or formulation question.
| # | Tool page | Use it for | What you describe (fields) | Who receives it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Request quotes from feed additive suppliers | buying an additive: product, grade, volume, destination | additive; grade or form; quantity per year; destination country; certification needed (FAMI-QS, GMP+, organic, halal) | several independent suppliers |
| 2 | Find a feed additive regulatory or formulation expert | a dossier, registration or formulation question | topic (EU dossier, US petition or GRAS, third-country registration, formulation); species; country; short description | independent regulatory or formulation experts |
Field lists as on the forms; the tool pages explain why each field matters. The field list of row 1 doubles as the structure of a written request for quotation.
Which Tool Fits Your Request?#
A request about a product, grade or volume belongs in the supplier quote request, and a request about a dossier, a registration or a diet belongs in the expert match. The supplier form collects commercial terms only. The expert form offers seven jurisdiction choices: EU, GB, US, China, India, Brazil or other.
| Request | Tool | Instrument and date | Background page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price, grade, form, volume or delivery of an additive | supplier quote request | none (commercial) | none |
| New EU authorisation dossier or renewal | expert match | Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 Art. 9(8) (10 years), Art. 14(1) (application at the latest one year before expiry) | EU feed additive authorisation |
| EU modification of an authorisation or holder change | expert match | Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 Art. 13 | EU feed additive regulation |
| US food additive petition, GRAS notice, Animal Food Ingredient Consultation, NADA or VFD | expert match | 21 CFR 571 and 573; 21 CFR 582 and 584 or AGRN; GFI #294 (2025-01-07); 21 CFR 514 and 558 | US feed additive regulation |
| GB authorisation | expert match | SI 2025/361: no end date from 2025-04-01 | GB feed additive authorisation |
| China import registration | expert match | MARA import registration certificate, valid 5 years as observed on issued certificates | China feed additive regulation |
| Diet review or trial design | expert match | none (formulation) | none |
Timing is the reason to ask an expert early. In the EU an authorisation is valid for 10 years (Article 9(8) of Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003), and a renewal application is due at the latest one year before the expiry date (Article 14(1)). In the US the FDA published the final guidance GFI #294 on the Animal Food Ingredient Consultation (AFIC) on 2025-01-07, after the FDA-AAFCO memorandum of understanding ended on 2024-10-01 without renewal. An AFIC outcome is a consultation letter, not an approval, so a US request for a new ingredient starts with a different question than a request for an ingredient with a listing. The regulatory and formulation questions in the table need an expert because each rests on a different instrument, and none is a commercial term a supplier can answer.
What to Prepare Before You Send a Request#
Prepare the legal status of the additive at the destination before asking for a quote, because the EU identification number or the US status decides whether the product may be sold there at all. Ask the supplier for the CoA, TDS, SDS, stability data, certificate of origin, registration copy and, where a holder exists, the holder's letter of access. An EU holder exists only for zootechnical additives, coccidiostats and histomonostats and GM additives, so a generic additive has no holder to name. Great Britain differs from the EU on duration: GB authorisations carry no end date from 2025-04-01 (SI 2025/361). A CoA proves the batch, not the legal status, so the status check and the document request are two separate steps. Ask for the identification number first, then for the documents; a supplier that cannot name the number cannot document the status.
| Check | What to have ready | Basis | Where it is explained |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legal status at destination | EU identification number or US status | EU Register and 21 CFR | EU Register of Feed Additives |
| Holder | holder only for category 4, category 5 and GM additives | Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 | none |
| Quality system | FAMI-QS status from the FAMI-QS database; GMP+ status from the GMP+ company database | FAMI-QS notice 2023-02-22 on a fake certificate; GMP+ TS1.2 section 3.3 | FAMI-QS certification; GMP+ feed certification |
| Establishment (EU) | registered or approved establishment; listed third country | Regulation (EC) No 183/2005 Art. 5(6), Art. 23 | none |
| Supplier approval (US) | approved and documented before receipt; FSVP reevaluation | 21 CFR 507.120; 21 CFR 1.505(c), at least every 3 years | none |
| Documents | CoA, TDS, SDS, stability data, certificate of origin, registration copy, holder letter of access | supplier documents | none |
EU operators source feed only from registered or approved establishments (Regulation (EC) No 183/2005, Article 5(6)), and third-country imports come only from listed countries and establishments (Article 23). US receiving facilities approve and document suppliers before receipt (21 CFR 507.120), and importers reevaluate each supplier under the FSVP at least at the end of any 3-year period without reevaluation (21 CFR 1.505(c)).
How Requests Are Routed and What the Tools Do Not Do#
A supplier quote request goes to several independent suppliers and an expert question goes to independent regulatory or formulation experts; the site itself sells no additive and ranks no company. No listing is paid for, and the site ranks no supplier or expert. The forms promise no response time, no number of quotes or suppliers, no screening of recipients and no price. The site publishes no price at all, so a figure for an additive comes only from a supplier answering a request.
Both forms ask for contact details and consent before sending. How long form data is kept is set out in the privacy policy.
Questions About the Feed Additive Tools#
Readers who search for feed additive tools often expect a list or a calculator, so the one question below answers what the site offers and what it does not.
Is there a list of feed additive tools?#
Yes: the site runs two feed additive tools, the supplier quote request and the expert match, and no dosing or cost calculator. No calculator has shown search demand so far.
