AnimalFeedAdditives.net is an independent reference on feed additives that takes no payment for rankings, listings or placements and compiles every fact from named primary sources such as EUR-Lex, the EU Register of Feed Additives, EFSA and the eCFR. This policy has four parts, in the order of the title: how the site stays independent, which sources it uses, how supplier and expert requests are disclosed, and how errors are corrected. It applies to every page, table and form on the site.
Scope of This Reference: Feed Additives Only, No Veterinary or Nutrition Advice#
AnimalFeedAdditives.net covers feed additives as Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 and the US system define them, for the people who choose, formulate, buy and register them, and gives no veterinary or nutrition advice. The EU definition sits in Article 2(2)(a) of that regulation, which sorts additives into five categories under Article 6(1). The US has no single legal class "feed additive" and instead uses four routes: food additive (21 CFR 573), GRAS (21 CFR 582 and 584, or an animal food GRAS notice), new animal drug in feed (21 CFR 558) and AAFCO-defined ingredient under FDA enforcement policy.
The site does not cover feed materials and compound feed, equipment, breeds, housing, diseases as topics, veterinary drugs outside feed, human supplements or consumer pet-owner and backyard questions. Antibiotics, hormones and beta-agonists appear only as approval status, history and alternatives by jurisdiction, and the types of feed additives covered are listed by EU category and US class. No page gives treatment or dosing advice for sick animals; a formulation or a sick animal needs the farm's own veterinarian or nutritionist. EU feed additives are never described as preventing, treating or curing disease, and pages write what the authorisation states.
Editorial Independence: No Paid Rankings, Listings or Placements#
No company pays AnimalFeedAdditives.net for a ranking, a listing, a mention or a position on any page, and no page ranks named companies or products by quality. No company is given a favoured status: none is called recommended, verified or preferred.
The site earns through two request forms, a supplier quote request and an expert match, and sells nothing else. Editorial content is written before and independently of any request, and what happens to a request is set out under Request Disclosure below.
How companies, manufacturers and products are named#
Company and product names appear on the site only as register holders, as trade names next to their holder, or as dated market facts, and always as examples, never as endorsements. An EU holder is named only where the authorisation is bound to a holder (zootechnical additives, coccidiostats and histomonostats, and GMO additives); generic entries carry no holder. Market size appears only as a range of named analysts with year, and prices only as dated ranges with region and currency, never as a price for today.
Companies are not compared by quality. How to compare and qualify feed additive manufacturers and suppliers is explained as criteria, not as a ranking.
No advertising, sponsored content or tracking vendors#
The site runs no advertising, publishes no sponsored or paid content and embeds no analytics or advertising vendors. Samples, gifts or payments from companies do not change a page.
Byline: Who Writes and Signs the Pages#
Every page is written and signed by the AnimalFeedAdditives.net Editorial Team, and no page claims to have been written or reviewed by a named expert, veterinarian or nutritionist. The independent experts reached through the expert form answer reader requests; they do not write or review pages. No person is named as author or editor, and the byline on each page links to the checking steps.
Sources: The Primary Sources Behind Every Page#
Every value on AnimalFeedAdditives.net comes from the body that issued it: EU acts from EUR-Lex and the Publications Office, authorisation entries from the EU Register of Feed Additives, US rules from the eCFR and FDA, and scientific results from peer-reviewed journals. The table lists each fact type with its issuing body. No encyclopaedia or wiki is cited as a source, and the instrument, article and date sit inside the sentence on each page.
| # | Fact type | Primary source | What it supplies | Related page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | EU law | EUR-Lex and the Publications Office | regulations, implementing regulations, directives, consolidated texts | none |
| 2 | EU authorisations | EU Register of Feed Additives (Food and Feed Information Portal) | identification numbers, species, minimum and maximum content, expiry notes | EU Register of Feed Additives |
| 3 | EU safety and efficacy | EFSA FEEDAP opinions in the EFSA Journal (doi) | target animal, consumer, user and environment conclusions | EU feed additive authorisation |
| 4 | US rules | eCFR Title 21 (parts 558, 570, 573, 582, 584) | food additive, GRAS and medicated-feed sections and limits | US feed additive regulation |
| 5 | US agency decisions | FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine | GRAS notice responses, approvals, enforcement letters | none |
| 6 | US ingredient definitions | AAFCO Official Publication | ingredient definitions | AAFCO |
| 7 | GB authorisations | UK Food Standards Agency register | GB entries; the GB renewal requirement was removed from 2025-04-01 (SI 2025/361) | GB feed additive authorisation |
| 8 | Identity and hazard | PubChem (CAS, structure); ECHA (EC number, CLP classification) | substance identity and hazard line | feed additive substances |
| 9 | Evidence | peer-reviewed journals (doi.org) | trials and meta-analyses with authors and year | none |
A value that primary sources contradict, or that could not be confirmed, is left out until it is resolved. A newer implementing regulation, register edition, eCFR amendment or EFSA opinion replaces the older value, and the checking steps for each value are set out in methodology and fact-checking.
Evidence hierarchy and the basis of every dose#
Evidence on the site ranks in four levels, from strongest to weakest:
- EU authorisation with an EFSA efficacy conclusion
- Peer-reviewed meta-analysis
- Single trial
- Supplier claim
Every dose names its basis: an EU legal limit, a US approved level under 21 CFR 558, an NRC requirement, or one named trial or manufacturer. These bases are never mixed in one figure. Units are mg/kg complete feed (at 12 % moisture where the act says so), IU/kg, FTU/kg, CFU/kg and U/kg.
A legal minimum for enzymes and micro-organisms is never presented as an optimum or a maximum. Study results name species, dose, conditions, authors, year and journal, and one trial is never written as a general effect.
Regulatory status wording: instrument, date and printed expiry#
Every regulatory statement on the site names its instrument, article and date, and EU and US status are shown side by side because a US approval never implies EU authorisation, or the reverse. An EU authorisation runs for 10 years and is renewable for 10-year periods (Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003, Articles 9(8) and 14(1)).
Where a renewal act exists, the page names the renewing regulation and its expiry. Where none was found but the EU Register records an application, the page uses one fixed sentence: "printed expiry [date]; the EU Register records a renewal application and still lists the entry pending the Commission decision (Article 14 of Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003)". The words "expired", "withdrawn", "banned" or "renewed" never appear without the act behind them, and how renewal works is set out under the EU feed additive regulation.
Register figures, when a page gives one, carry the date of access and the basis of the count, and no figure is given as a number of substances.
Request Disclosure: How Supplier Quote and Expert Requests Work#
Two forms on the site pass reader requests on: a supplier quote request that reaches several independent suppliers, and an expert request that goes to independent regulatory or formulation experts. The supplier form reads "Describe the additive, grade and volume once; the request reaches several independent suppliers." The expert form reads "Your question goes to independent regulatory or formulation experts." Under both sits the line "We pass requests on to independent suppliers and experts; nobody pays to be named on this site (see the editorial policy)." Suppliers and experts are not chosen for favour and pay nothing for a listing.
| Request | Fields | Goes to | Page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supplier quote | additive, grade or form, quantity per year, destination country, certification needed (FAMI-QS, GMP+, organic, halal) | independent suppliers | request quotes from feed additive suppliers |
| Expert match | topic (EU dossier, US petition or GRAS, third-country registration, formulation), species, country, short description | independent experts | feed additive regulatory or formulation expert |
The forms promise no screening, no response time and no number of quotes or replies, and a request is not an endorsement of any product. Submitted form data is stored for 24 months, and retention and your rights are set out in the privacy policy.
No analytics or advertising vendor reads what is entered in a form.
Corrections: How to Report an Error and How Changes Are Shown#
Report an error on any page to editorial@animalfeedadditives.net with the page address, the value in question and the primary source that contradicts it. An error is a value that differs from its issuing body, a wrong instrument or date, or a status word the act does not support.
The reported value is checked against its issuing body. A confirmed error is corrected, and the page carries a dated correction note at its foot saying what changed; other questions reach the team through the contact page.
An update is not a correction. When a new act, register edition or eCFR amendment changes a value, the page is updated and its last updated date changes. No response time is promised for correction reports.
